Playing for Lakers

Looking for a Club That Prioritizes Growth Over Glory?

At Minnesota Lakers, we believe in hard work, inclusivity, leadership, and long-term development—not just immediate results. Player development should be fun, challenging, and inspiring. It should build a passion for the sport, a never-stop-learning mindset, and a strong work ethic where nothing is given—everything is earned.

We prepare players for their next level, whether that’s making varsity, standing out in high school, or competing in college. Development goes beyond lacrosse skills—it’s about training the complete athlete. Our program prioritizes:

  • Speed & conditioning as a core part of development, not an add-on
  • Mental training for stress management, team dynamics, and overcoming challenges
  • General mental health & recovery to ensure players are at their best, on and off the field

Lakers players and parents can trust that we’re fully committed to every aspect of development—physical, mental, and strategic.

Evaluations

Season. These evaluations give players the opportunity to showcase their skills, athleticism, and mindset in a competitive yet development-focused environment.

Our process isn’t about cutting players—it’s about identifying where each athlete fits best within our structured training model. Evaluations allow us to assess player development, team placement, and areas for growth to ensure every athlete is positioned for success.

Players who miss season evaluations can still be evaluated at Supplemental Evaluations, apply through our Application to Play for Lakers or submit a Coach’s Recommendation for consideration.

Supplemental Evaluations

Our supplemental evaluations provide an opportunity for players to showcase their skills and be considered for our competitive teams. Due to limited spots available for all our teams following our primary evaluations in July, we are holding supplemental evaluations instead of traditional tryouts. This evaluation is designed to assess player abilities beyond our regular evaluation process.

Supplemental Evaluations are open to players in the following Grad Years:

When

Why Lakers? Where Players Are Made, Not Just Found.

Commit. Prepare. Develop. Rise Above. Dominate.

27 Weeks of High-Level Training

From Fall to Summer, our Premier, Select 17U, and Select 14U teams follow a structured curriculum designed to build skills, game awareness, and leadership. Training is about trusting the process, pushing limits, and developing a love for improvement—not just chasing results.

Player Growth Beyond Practice

Growth doesn’t stop when practice ends. Lakers athletes get consistent feedback with:

  • Pre- and post-tournament assessments
  • Weekly reflections and seasonal evaluations (Fall Ball, Winter Skills, Summer Season)
  • Personalized guidance to help them reach their next-level goals

We challenge players to take ownership of their development—recognizing strengths, identifying areas for growth, and putting in the work to elevate their game.

Recruiting Support Built for the Player

It’s not about what looks best for our program—it’s about what’s best for the player. Whether a player’s path leads to NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA, or club lacrosse, we guide families through recruiting with one key question:

Would they love the school even if lacrosse wasn’t an option?

Our approach ensures athletes find the right fit academically, athletically, and personally—not just the highest level of play.

Coaching That Builds Athletes

Our coaching staff is committed to developing complete athletesmentally, physically, and strategically. Players gain high-level instruction, mentorship, and leadership training to help them compete at their best while growing as confident individuals.

Leadership On and Off the Field

Lakers athletes hold themselves to a higher standard—as teammates, competitors, and people. Leadership training, mentorship opportunities, and a strong team culture prepare them for success in lacrosse, academics, and life.

Chaperoned Travel to Reduce Costs

We know travel is an investment. For all out-of-state tournaments, players are chaperoned by Lakers directors, coaches, and select parents—from MSP departure to return. Families can travel if they choose but aren’t required to.

Built for Multi-Sport Athletes

We support multi-sport athletes and respect family schedules. That’s why Fall and Winter tournaments are optional.Players can attend all, some, or none—whatever works best for them.

Clear, Direct Communication

We keep families informed with:

  • Weekly updates during the club season
  • Monthly updates during the high school/association season
  • Pre-tournament schedules and details

Teams use GroupMe, our communication app, and the CrossBar app for:

  • Practice and tournament schedules
  • Leadership training events
  • Direct player-parent-coach messaging

THE PROCESS THAT MAKES PLAYERS

OUR NON-NEGOTIABLES

PLAYER DEVELOPMENT

We focus on getting each player ready for their next level–whether that's making varsity, excelling in high school, or preparing for college. Through core fundamental concepts and competitive lacrosse, we develop the skills and mindset needed to succeed.

ATHLETIC DEVELOPMENT

An essential part of the development process, speed & conditioning is built into practices and offered twice weekly at N1Motion (or remotely), helping players enhance performance and prevent injuries.

MENTAL PERFORMANCE

With seminars from local sports psychologist, players learn to handle game pressures, the recruiting process, and daily stress, building confidence and mental toughness.

COACHING PHILOSOPHY

We are committed to helping our players believe in themselves and their abilities. We see mistakes and bad decisions not as failures but as valuable coaching opportunities. Players make the best decisions they can at the moment, and these experiences provide us, as coaches, the chance to guide them toward better choices with the benefit of hindsight and more information. With these coachable moments, we instill into our players the need to trust the process and not focus on results. By doing this, the results players seek will come. We emphasize that fundamentals are not merely techniques but principles that form the foundation of the game. Through our coaching philosophy, we aim to empower confident, resilient, and skilled players who are prepared to tackle any challenge on and off the field. Any player can be a great player by putting in the work to achieve what they want and trusting the process.

RECRUITING PHILOSOPHY

What's Best for the Student-Athlete, Not Our Program: To us, it doesn't matter what level our players play at the collegiate level. It can be NCAA Division 1, NCAA Division 2, NCAA Division 3, NAIA, or club. Players should pick a school that is the right fit for them, not what makes our program look good. A school where they can truly see themselves if lacrosse wasn't an option no matter what or if they should stop playing lacrosse. We help players and parents throughout the recruiting process as they navigate a stressful and overwhelming time.
